CyberKnife Treatment Capabilities for Recurrent Lung Cancer

Although a recurrent lung cancer diagnosis can cause feelings of shock and distress, patients can feel hopeful that there are ways to target the recurrent cancer even if they have had treatment in the lung before.

At Louisville CyberKnife, our team of multidisciplinary physicians with the James Graham Brown Cancer Center collaborates to offer optimal treatment options. A patient’s diagnosis, disease pattern and medical history are evaluated to help determine the best plan for retreatment specific to the patient’s individual needs.

Our center uses CyberKnife® technology to treat primary, recurrent and metastatic lung tumors with stereotactic body radiation therapy, an advanced approach that does not require anesthesia, incisions or a prolonged recovery period. The accuracy of radiation delivery with CyberKnife allows physicians to treat areas previously treated with surgery or radiation. In some cases, patients with recurrent tumors have limited options. CyberKnife treatment is completed within five outpatient sessions, and patients typically return to their routines immediately following treatment.
