Dr. Shiao Woo Speaks at Gilda’s Club Cancer Support Group

On Tuesday, May 17, Shiao Woo M.D., M.B.B.S, F.A.C.R, Medical Director at Louisville Cyberknife, spoke at the Louisville chapter of Gilda’s Club.

Gilda’s Club is a community organization for people living with cancer, their families and friends.  Local chapters provide meeting places where those living with cancer, their families, and friends can join with others to build emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care.  Free of charge and nonprofit, Gilda’s Club chapters offer support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a nonresidential, homelike setting.

At the meeting, Dr. Woo spoke about lung cancer, focusing on the epidemic of lung cancer in the state of Kentucky by sharing the statistics comparing Kentucky to the rest of the country.  He explained that Kentucky has the highest incidence of lung cancer, as well as the highest cancer related death rate, in the nation.

Dr. Woo also discussed the different types of lung cancer and the various treatment options available.  Louisville CyberKnife Nurse, Anna Murphy, RN, was on hand to discuss CyberKnife treatment and answer questions.

There were about 41 group members and family members in attendance.  Christy Stone, CNMT, Site Administrator at Louisville CyberKnife and Kurshanna Cox, Physician Services Representative at Louisville CyberKnife provided each attendee with a Louisville Cyberknife informational packet, journal book, and pen.

Louisville CyberKnife was honored to be able to participate at the Gilda’s Club support group meeting.  We were happy to be part of a wonderful organization that is helping the cancer patients in our community.
