Employee Spotlight: Mark Terry

Title:

Radiation Therapist

How long have you worked in the oncology industry?

I have worked in healthcare for over 22 years.  I have spent the last 13 years at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

What do you do in your role at Louisville CyberKnife?

I deliver stereotactic radiation to planned areas.  I have a responsibility to deliver the best treatment possible to our patients.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is the appreciation we receive from our patients.  It’s extremely rewarding to know that you are changing people’s lives.

How do you ensure patient safety in your job everyday?

We ensure patient safety by doing our treatment timeouts, watching and listening for the patient in the room if they need anything, and checking the plans.

What does quality mean to you and how to you ensure the patients receive the highest quality care?

Quality to me means treating patients like you would your own mom or dad.  Having empathy, compassion, and a sense of pride in taking care of our patients.

Do you have a memorable patient story?

I remember a young child, a girl that I treated several years back.  She had loss vision in one eye and we were trying to prevent the loss of vision in the other eye.
