National Cancer Control Month: Early Detection Efforts

April is Cancer Control Month, a national observance that highlights advances in cancer treatment, prevention and early detection of cancer. Since preventive screenings are one of the best defenses against cancer, Louisville CyberKnife aims to promote education and awareness around these life-saving early detection efforts.

Catching cancer early is often one of the most critical components in treating and surviving the disease. When detected early, there is typically a better chance of successfully treating and eradicating the disease than when it is discovered at a more advanced stage.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force publishes cancer screening recommendations for people at specific age ranges and risk-levels. You can find a full list of the official recommendations on the USPSTF website here.

If you or a loved one is at a moderate to high-level risk for developing lung cancer, it’s important to take screenings and early detection efforts seriously. Talk to your physician for more information on different types of screenings and if they are right for you. You can also read our blog posts that cover screenings for prostate, lung and head and neck cancers for more information.
